Research Interests

Image Analysis
Since the start of my career as an academic, I have been interested in image analysis.

My thesis, "Automated Classification and Grading of Dysplasia in Colon Tissue", reports on my work in medical image analysis. In particular, colour texture analysis, co-occurrence matrices, specialised colour models and the relationship between classification and grading in continuous biological processes.

Wireless Sensor Networks
Shortly after its creation, I joined the Cogent Computing Applied Research Centre at Coventry university. Since then, I have been involved in a number of projects in wireless sensor networks and ubiquitous computing, from temperature monitoring in jet engine exhausts, to comfort monitoring in bomb-disposal suits (with PhD student John Kemp) and systems-level research into WSN architectures (with PhD student Dan Goldsmith).

My own research within the group is in the generation of higher-order information from sensed data. Identifying isopleths, for example, and drawing them on an interpolated representation of the field allows real-time evaluation of phenomena by humans.
